Match report Winning Streak comes to a grinding halt!

Strathmore made the short journey across the Angus/Perthshire border to play Meigle in Cricket Scotland’s T20 Scottish Cup, with both teams still in the frame for Finals Day on the 11th of July.

A change of captain for Strathmore didn’t change our luck at the toss, which was duly won by Meigle who elected to bat first. Meigle’s opening pair looked like they had the net run rate on their minds as they started hard and never let up until Majid was caught behind by Matty of a Haseeb slow ball (the first time he has taken a wicket with the new variation!!).

At this stage Meigle were 99 for 1 after 10 overs with Josh sitting on 43 not out. Although the Strathmore first change bowlers managed to stop the flow of runs at one end, taking three more wickets for not very many runs in the process, they were unable to find a way to stop Josh.

Josh eventually finished on 102 not out and was ably supported by Uday during the last 5 overs with a partnership of 55 runs.

Strathmore were set a daunting 192 runs, at a rate of 9.6 per over, to win the game and stay in contention for finals day. Unfortunately, today was the day when the top order collectively misfired for the first time this season, with wickets falling at regular intervals in the first 9 overs.

Jonnie joined Mubeen in the middle in the 9th over with Strathmore needing 140 runs, at a rate of 11.7 per over, to win off the next 12 overs. No small task but their heads did not drop as they enjoyed a 50-run partnership during the next 7 overs, moving the score onto 102 for 5. Unfortunately, realising that they needed to push on even more, they started going for the big hits and their wickets were lost in quick succession.

Monk and James saw out the last 4 overs to ensure that we batted out our 20 overs.

Meigle eventually ran out winners by 53 runs.
