#HitTheDeck

Our "Hit The Deck" crowd funding campaign launched on Saturday night. While Chris Duke from Wave 102 provided the entertainment for the evening, the campaign got off to a flying start with around £800 already pledged - a big thank you to all those that have contributed so far! To find out more about the project go to www.crowdfunder.co.uk/strathmore-cricket-club. The key to successful crowd funding is getting the project seen by as many people as possible so, please, share it with any contacts you have that you think may be interested.

Cricket

The 1st XI, after falling to defeat in their opening two league matches, picked up an excellent win on Saturday against Meigle and will be hoping to build on that this weekend at Forthill.

The 2nd XI have won both of their R&D league matches so far but were knocked out of the 2 Counties Cup - after a number of late call offs a make-shift side were comfortably defeated through at Victory Park against Meigle.

Ian Cran

The club was saddened to hear of the passing of Ian Cran last week. Ian was a great servant of cricket (at Strathmore and beyond) over the years and will be greatly missed. As a mark of respect, a minutes silence was observed prior to the match on Saturday. His funeral takes place on Thursday 18th May - the details can be found on the club website.

All Stars Cricket

All Stars, the exciting new cricket programme for 5-8 year olds, comes to Forfar on Friday 19 May. All the arrangements are in place. We have our Activator trained and ready to go. And the good news is that we have around 20 kids signed up to take part. So it’s onward and upward from here.

Junior cricket is also up and running for the next age-group up and has been pretty well attended so far.

Help with Hosting

We are still looking for people to help with hosting and catering on match days.

Our sponsorship team have been very busy and we have two sponsors for each of our home first team fixtures, which is fantastic. We need people to help us with hosting. It’s a tough job! An excellent lunch and tea, convivial company and you can watch the cricket. So why not throw your hat in the ring and offer to be a host. If you’re interested, contact Lisa McDonald.

We also need to look after the players. On a Saturday that means a bit of tidying and setting; all the food is provided by caterers. On Sundays there’s an option. Those who enjoy catering can provide teas. For others, there’s the option of us providing the food and them helping to serve and clear. Again, it would be great if we could share the workload – so let Lisa know if you can help at any time.

Ball Sponsors

There are still some matches for which we don’t have a ball sponsor. For £30 you will be acknowledged as the ball sponsor and receive tea for two in the tearoom. If you’re interested, let us know or put your name on the sheet in the clubhouse.

#MoreThanCricket

The club was represented at Cricket Scotland’s first ever national conference for community clubs like ours. And we learned a great deal.

Over the past two years we’ve been working hard to raise our profile in the community and attract more people down to Lochside. We think that we’ve made good progress, but we know that much more can be achieved. Recent research conducted by the Robertson Trust has highlighted just how much sports clubs can contribute to community and social issues, if they make this part of their purpose. The research also confirms that if you work on being an organisation that makes a real contribution to community life, there are measurable benefits to your core sporting activity

At the May committee meeting we started to explore the possibility of establishing a separate trust that could take on responsibility for developing the ground as a community resource, leaving our committee to concentrate on cricket matters. We’ll be working on this over the next few months. More news to follow.
