Strathmore Cricket Club News story

The View From Lochside

21 Feb 2016

Welcome to the first edition of our new club bulletin.

We plan to publish monthly and use the bulletin to keep you up to date with what's going on in and around the club.

We hope that you find the bulletin useful.

Overseas Player

We are at an advanced stage in negotiations for an overseas player for the 2016 season .We have a short-list of four players and hope to make a decision in the near future.

 Indoor League

We are, once again, competing in the indoor 6-a-side league in Dundee this winter. Results have been mixed, but (with a couple of rounds of matches left) the semi-finals are still a possibility.

Cricket Force

Last year we joined the national Cricket Force. This is an initiative designed to engage volunteers in helping cricket clubs improve their facilities and prepare for the new season.

In practice, Cricket Force is an intensive weekend of activity over which volunteers work together on practical projects to clean up and improve facilities.

We are aiming to hold our Cricket Force weekend on the 2nd/3rd April 2016. Please put the date in your diary.

We are currently developing our plan for the weekend and identifying jobs that we want to get done. We will then start recruiting volunteers and seeking other kinds of "in kind" support to help us take the work forward.

More details to follow soon...

Club Plan

The committee has been working hard to create a development plan to help guide and manage our work this year and in to the future. We are keen to hear your views about the plan. A copy of the working draft is available at the club, along with some forms for you to give us comments. If you'd like to access the plan online, you can do so here.

So far the plan is focussing on 2016, but the aim is to turn it into a three or five year plan.

Thriving Clubs Scheme

Last year we were one of ten clubs to be accepted in to the Thriving Clubs Scheme. This gives us access to support and advice from a sports marketing company. The basic idea is that to thrive on the field, clubs need to be more enterprising off the field and work hard to link with the local community. This thinking is one of the influences on our club plan and we are making progress. We have already:

  • Launched a new sponsorship brochure
  • Investigated the potential to install Wi-Fi at the club - we are almost ready to go on this
  • Started to develop a programme of fund raising and social events
  • Started to talk to some other local organisations about how we can work together better
  • Attracted some new users to the club

This is only the beginning...
