Strathmore Cricket Club News story

The View From Lochside

27 May 2016

Apologies for the delay between issues, we will hopefully keep up with our monthly bulletin from now on

A lot has been happening around the club over the last couple of months...

Our overseas player, Theo van Pype, has been with us for just over a month and is now happily settled in his caravan accommodation. Thanks to Mick McDonald for putting a roof over his head until his caravan arrived on site. On the pitch he has chipped in with a couple of fifties and a few wickets so far.

A massive thanks to everyone who contributed in any way to this season's Cricket Force.

This is our second year participating in Cricket Force and we've doubled the number of people involved and undertaken a huge amount of work. The list of achievements includes:

  • Repainting the tearoom
  • Replacing the dressing room ceiling
  • Painting both sets sight screens
  • General weeding and tidying up of the paved areas
  • Replacing floor tiles behind the bar
  • Painting the scorebox
  • Painting external railings
  • Lots of cleaning and tidying
  • New kit lockers in the away changing room

It just shows what we can achieve when we put our minds to it and pitch in to help.

And a special thanks to Cricket Scotland staff and squad members.who came and assisted. They did great work and made a big difference.

We're already thinking about next year and putting together a major project at the centre of Cricket Force 2017.

Ian "Tattle McLean" has recently returned from a regal tour of India, meeting up with a number of former Strathie overseas players. We're told that the trip was many years in the planning - and we believe it didn't disappoint.

Congratulations to the Domino team who won the Mary Miller cup - the first trophy of 2016 for Strathie

Well done to the Pool team for raising around £600 through their annual 24 hour pool marathon. It's almost worth forgiving some key individuals (they know who they are) for missing pre-season nets the following morning.

We have been awarded a small grant from the Action Earth Fund to tidy up and extend the gardens at the club entrance and increase the number of planters that brought some colour to the ground last year.

What we need now are some plants and some volunteers to undertake the work.

If you'd like to help making or planting the planters OR have some plants that you can spare, let us know. Leave a message at the club or email us at strathmorecc@hotmail.com.

On the field, the 1sts have now played 4 games in the league and are still searching for a win; hopefully that will change when Stoneywood-Dyce visit Lochside this weekend. Wednesday night also saw the 1sts exit the Murgitroyd T20 at the hands of the Aberdeen Cricket Association.

The 2nd XI have had a more fruitful start to the season and are unbeaten so far.

Upcoming Fixtures:

  • Sat 28th May - 1st XI v Stoneywood-Dyce
  • Sun 29th May - Gordonians v 2nd XI
  • Wed 1st June - Midweek XI v Dundee Unit. Staff

There has been a fantastic uptake on match sponsorships this year; all matches are sponsored and a number have 2 lots of sponsors (some busy days at Lochside in store!). A big thank you to all involved for their support.

Junior training has been running for a few weeks now. This year there's been a move to Friday nights and there's more emphasis on playing games for the younger players.

Fun Day and BBQ

  • Saturday 25th June is a key date for your diary. There will be a fun day and beach themed BBQ to raise money for the Marie Curie Cancer Fund. More details can be found on the website and Facebook or by contacting Lisa McDonald or Jenny McGregor.
