All the best for a speedy recovery

Grounds man Fred Murray has now had is long awaited hip operation and is at home recovering. Fred did a manful job getting through the summer despite considerable pain, making sure the ground was in good order and we all had good cricket wickets to play on.

We trust that Fred will make a speedy and complete recovery and look forward to welcoming him back for the 2017 season.

Thanks

A big thanks to all those who came along and helped with our end of season work on the ground and general tidy up. I think that you’ll all agree that the place is looking well.

Welcome

Welcome to Forfar Musical Society who will be putting the big shed to good use in the coming months, using it as a workshop for building scenery for their Christmas Panto. This year it’s Cinderella and ticketing details are available at http://www.forfarmusical.co.uk.

Hogmanay @ Strathmore

Tickets for our own Hogmanay party – Hogmanay @ Strathmore are on sale now, with tickets purchased during October available at the Early Bird price of £10 (a discount of £2).

There will be music from the Odyssey Show Band, with a mix of styles to suit the occasion and the crowd.

A light supper is also included in the price.

So book early to avoid disappointment and help us to make this a big success.

Looking back on the 2016 Season

The 2016 cricket season has now come and gone, so how did it go?

On the field it was a mixed bag, but the first team achieved its primary target for the year – to survive in the Premier division. A great deal of the credit for that must go to our overseas amateur, Theo Van Pype, who had an excellent season with bat and ball. Theo may not be a flamboyant batsman, but he scored 575 league runs at an average of over 50. Through-out the season he put the team’s interests ahead of his own and batted to suit the circumstances. He was a pleasure to have around and a massive asset on the field. We wish him well in his future career.

The second team had good and bad days, but generally had a good season and those involved enjoyed their cricket.

Off the field, we significantly increased the number of match day sponsors and we are grateful to them all for their support. We hope to see them all back next year.

The club also played its part in the wider development of cricket in the area hosting Caledonian area squad sessions and providing a venue for junior and senior cup fixtures.

So all in all, a good season and lots to look forward to.
