A team of Rotarians from all over Australia will be playing against local Rotarians (and some "ringers" from the club) at Lochside this Friday from 2pm.
Afterwards there is a BBQ at the club (£10 per ticket - all you can eat) with any surplus & donations going to the World Rotary Polio Eradication Programme - POLIO PLUS - which is co-sponsored by the World Health Organisation and the Bill Gates Foundation. It will be only the second time a disease has been eradicated from the world. Every pound raised is trebled by Bill Gates!
This match will be the third time the Aussies have visited Lochside and is part of a 3-week tour that sees the tourists play here before moving on to Inverness, York, Leicester, Essex and Hampshire.
Keith Hopkins, Rotarian from Kirriemuir said, “The Fellowship is a great way for those who like cricket to travel the world and meet other like-minded people who not only have a love of cricket but also share in their Rotary ideals of service above self. I have recently returned from a World Festival in New Zealand where there were cricket loving Rotarians from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Australia and New Zealand as well as the UK, over 250 attendees. We swapped ideas and have matched clubs to do projects together. A wonderful opportunity. The next festival will be held in Melbourne in 2019.”
Mark Stewart from the cricket club said, “We love having these visitors here as they show how, no matter your age, you can enjoy the game and play it in the right spirit. Some of those coming have been here before and it is a credit to the club that they want to come back. We, at Lochside, are looking forward to it and we welcome any visitors who would like to come along on the day.”
Please come along and support the club and meet our Aussie friends. They are excited to be coming to Scotland and are looking forward to their game here and meeting locals.
