Cricket Force is coming soon

We are already well advanced with our plans for this year’s pre-season Cricket Force activity.

The main focus this year will be erecting our new deck – a big job that will take more than one weekend. The deck will be constructed on pillars so we will need help form people who have skills in brick laying as well as joiners for the deck and rails. Andy Sturrock is coordinating this work. The aim is to start as early as possible in April – by which time we hope to have our new windows and patio doors installed – and have the deck fully in place and ready to open before our first home league fixture.

The deck may be the centre-piece, but as always there’s lots more to do.

We’re aiming to replace the floor covering in the tearoom kitchen, replace the window frames on the tearoom veranda, install new numbers on the scoreboard, tidy up the gardens, complete work on our fence and much, much more.

So there will be jobs for everyone – skilled and unskilled – and irrespective of age. The more people we have, the more we get done – and the more enjoyable the experience.

Our Cricket Force weekend is taking place on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th April -so get the dates in your diary now.

And if you’re not available that weekend – don’t worry. The work can happen any time in the month of April.

Cricket

Overseas Player

We can now announce that our overseas amateur this year will be Michael Shum. Michael is a top order batter and off-spinner, who comes well recommended by Stevo and the club he played with last year. He should be with us in time for at least one warm up match before the season begins

Fixtures

We now have all of our first and second team fixtures and you can read them on the website.

The home league season for the first eleven starts on Saturday 12th May against old rivals Arbroath. Hopefully you’ll be able to enjoy that in the sun from the comfort of the new deck!

Pre-season Practice

Indoor training and practice is already underway, with the first session at the campus on the 25th of February. Pre-season will continue through-out March. The next session is this Sunday (4th) from 2-4pm.

Indoor Cricket

The indoor 6-a-side season is almost at an end - our team has 2 matches left to play. We won't be competing for glory on finals night but have picked up another win or two over the last month.

Junior Cricket

Our junior cricket continues at the Campus on the first Friday of the month.

We are well advanced with plans for the new season:

All Stars will be back – for new participants and those who took part last year. The first official All Stars session will be on Friday 18th May. Registrations are now open at allstarscricket.co.uk (and we already have our first couple of sign-ups).

The cost is £40 for the programme. This covers all of our Junior Cricket for 2018/19 and everyone enrolling will receive a pack of kit. For returning participants there is a new set of kit designed to continue their development as All Stars.

If you’d like to help with All Stars – or any other aspect of our Junior Cricket we’d love to hear from you. No previous experience is required. Details of what might be involved can be found here.

Meantime, there’s lots of pre-season cricket activity planned. The club will be:

  • Visiting schools to tell them about All Stars and generate interest
  • Running an after-school programme in Kirriemuir
  • Taking part in a schools’ sports festival for primary children in Kirriemuir
  • Running lunchtime coaching activity ant Forfar Academy
  • And much more......

Fancy a trip to see the Scotland V England International?

If you didn’t already know, Scotland are hosting a one-day international in Edinburgh on Sunday 10th June.

Tickets are on sale now at https://www.ticketline.co.uk/cricket-scotland#bio. There’s no news of discounted tickets for clubs, but the Club would be pleased to organise a bus or minibus if there were enough people interested in travelling together.

If you might be interested in joining a club trip, send us an email at Strathmorecc@hotmail.com.

In addition to the England game, there are also two midweek T20 matches against Pakistan on the 12th & 13th June.

Membership and Sponsorship

Now that we have fixtures confirmed, we’ll be issuing membership letters for 2018/19. So keep an eye on your email and letterbox for your letter.

Remember that in addition to retaining your membership – you can support the club and the players in other ways. We’re still looking for individual ball sponsors and player sponsors. Details and offers from the club email Strathmorecc@hotmail.com – and we’ll include information with your membership letter.
