Choice For Angus

Choice for Angus

Choice for Angus is an initiative that invites members of the public to vote on projects that are all intended to improve communities and quality of life for people that live in them.

Saturday 8 February is voting day ans Strathmore Cricket Club has four projects up for consideration.

We need as many people as possible to vote for the projects and you can do that in two ways:

  • By attending voting events on Saturday between 10am and 2pm. We have three projects under consideration at an event in the East and Old Church Hall. The fourth project is for Kirriemuir and will be voted on in Kirriemuir Town Hall

Our projects are:

Great First Cricket Experiences - Forfar

We want to provide great first experiences of cricket by removing the costs of the All Stars and Dynamo Cricket programmes for people who cannot afford to register and participate. We don’t think it’s fair that children’s opportunities should be limited by their family’s ability to pay.

We also want to deliver the programmes close to where people live and make it easier for them to get involved.

All Stars is an introductory cricket programme for 5 – 8-year-olds, which  operates on a “franchise” basis by the ECB and Strathmore CC is an authorised delivery centre. It runs over 8 weeks and carries a cost of £40 per child. Dynamo Cricket is a new programme for 9-11-year olds which operates on the same basis and cost.

Great First Cricket Experiences – Kirriemuir

We want to provide a great first experience of cricket by running a subsidised All Stars programme for Kirriemuir children who cannot afford to participate in current provision. We don’t think that children’s access to sport should be limited by the ability to pay.

All Stars is an introductory cricket programme for 5 – 8-year-olds, which offers children an enjoyable introduction to a new sport. The programme operates on a “franchise” basis by the England and Wales Cricket Board and Strathmore CC is an authorised delivery centre. It runs over 8 weeks and carries a cost of £40 per participating child.

We will run the programme in Kirrie and hope it is the catalyst for establishing junior cricket in the town on a more permanent basis.

Cricket Community Café

We want to replace cookers and upgrade kitchen equipment for the community café that operates at the club.

The Cricket Cafe makes affordable, healthy, food available to members of the community, including food for families during school holiday periods. It also operates as an “anchor” for a number of other activities including family learning, walking sports, health and well-being groups and as a meeting place for people in the local area.

The café functioned successfully in 2019 and will return in 2020.

The café is run by volunteers. It helps some to secure work and supports others who are unable to maintain themselves in work. It has plans to become a social enterprise providing employability skills and a catering service to community groups and events.

Developing Disability Cricket

We want to provide opportunities for people with disabilities to enjoy cricket at the club, in local schools and in other community settings.

To do this, we need to purchase equipment to support disability cricket

In particular, we would like to purchase two Table Cricket sets and a cage cricket set which are  specifically designed to enable people that experience disabilities to play indoor cricket games.

Having the equipment will enable us to:

  • Deliver programmes in primary and secondary schools
  • Run indoor cricket activities at the club for disabled and older people
  • Run outreach activities in other community

This initiative will enable the club to be more inclusive and help improve quality of life for those that take part.

Please support the club and help to make sure that more people have the opportunity to benefit from the cricket and social activities we run.
