Big Walk Update

23 Mar 2020

We're past the 500 mile mark!

A big thank you to everyone that has registered and sent in their distance updates so far, keep them coming; for those that haven't yet, let us know how you've been getting on!

(Send your weekly info to bigwalkbigdance@strathmorecc.co.uk).

Just over 2 weeks in (and based on the mileages we've received) we're currently somewhere in central Europe and there is (currently) still a Big Dance for us to be walking to...

We are, as everyone is well aware, in the midst of global pandemic with self-isolation and social distancing very much the order of the day. While people are (hopefully!) cutting themselves off from direct social contact, it is still really important to stay active for our physical and mental well-being and walking is a great way to do that by yourself!

So, while we are still allowed out and about, keep clocking up those miles - just follow the advice: don't travel unnecessarily, stay close to home, try to avoid popular routes and maintain a safe social distance when you do meet anyone.

If you're stuck in the house, there are still plenty of ways to keep getting a few miles under your belt and you should ensure that you do keep exercising regularly.

We're blessed locally with miles and miles of path networks on our doorsteps where you can get some steps in and enjoy some fresh air in splendid isolation.

Self-isolating or not risking the great outdoors? Why not dig out your Wii and take a trip round Wii Island or check out other virtual walks that you can take in the comfort of your own home.

In the current financial climate, we're not expecting participants to push too hard for sponsorship or donations at this stage (although any donations would be greatfully received) - there'll hopefully be plenty time for that nearer the end of our journey by which time things will (fingers crossed) have returned to some semblance of normality.

For the moment, we're just encouraging you all to keep healthy and use the Big Walk as an incentive to keep getting regular exercise during this difficult time.

Be safe, be sensible and keep walking.
