Strathmore Cricket Club 1st XI v DHSFP on Sat 17 Jul 2021 at 1pm
Strathmore Cricket Club Won By 5 wickets

Match report Strathmore were looking to get back to winning ways in the league as they welcomed Dundee High School Former Pupils (DHSFPs) to Lochside Park on Saturday for round nine in the Breedon NE Championship.

Strathmore welcomed back Liam Sweeney, Haydn Evans and James Colhoun and the batsmen in the team were looking to bat first for a change. However, the captain’s inability to call correctly at the toss continued and DHSFPs duly asked us to bowl first.

Haydn Evans and Jonnie Blackie opened the bowling for Strathmore and managed to restrict the High School to 41 runs in the opening 15 overs for the loss of three wickets. Nineteen of the 41 runs came by the way of extras as the Blackie and Evans strayed in their opening spell. Unfortunately, this was a common theme during the High Schools innings as Strathmore gave up 35 extras during the innings.

Notable bowling performances for Strathmore came from Liam Sweeney (2 wickets for 19 runs in his 8 overs) and Haydn Evans (2 wickets for 12 runs in 7 overs).

Luckily, the High School were unable to take advantage of the bowler’s generosity as they were only able to score 96 runs off the bat during their innings, setting Strathmore a target of 131 runs for the win. Only two DHSFPs batsmen managed to get into double figures with Matthew Lowdon (34 off 71 balls) and Andrew Lowdon (33 off 67 balls) adding a measure of respectability to the score.

DHSFPs started strongly as they took the first wicket in the first over. That hope was quickly extinguished as Haydn Evans (26 off 12 balls) and Sami Ejaz (35 off 35 balls) set about the DHSFPs bowlers, hitting a combined 13 boundaries as they shared a 71-run partnership in the first 8 overs.

Matthew Simpson (24 off 19 balls) and James Colhoun (24 of 19 balls) ensured that Strathmore ran out winners by 5 wickets, with Strathmore finishing on 131 for 5 in the 17th over.
