Match report Confidence was high in a much-changed squad as Strathmore travelled down to Loch Leven on Sunday to take on Kinross-shire in the quarterfinals of the Scottish Challenge Cup.

The captain in Liam Sweeney's absence, Uthman Ahmed, managed to win the toss and, to the delight of the batsmen, elected to bat first. Despite the outfield being a bit longer than Strathmore were used to, significant contributions were made by Simpson (60 off 59 balls), Imran Saim (59 off 81 balls), James Colhoun (28 off 22 balls) and the captain (20 off 31 balls) as Strathmore set Kinross-shire a target of 220 runs.

Notable bowling performances for Kinross-shire came from Ivan Groenewald (3 wickets for 20 runs) and James Ross (2 wickets for 41 runs).

Although the Strathmore bowling line was missing a couple of regulars, the bowlers stepped up and restricted Kinross-shire to 56 runs for three wickets in the first 15 overs. Then Imran Saim (4 wickets for 10 runs and a run out) and Haseeb Kiyani (2 wickets for 19 runs) got to work, dismissing the Kinross-shire tailenders for a combined total of 29 runs, as Kinross finished on 89 all out in the 26th over.

Strathmore progress to Challenge Cup semi-finals where they will play Hillhead CC at Lochside Park this coming Sunday.
