Dementia Meeting Centre - Open Meeting (25th Oct.)

21 Oct 2021

We are delighted to be part of a partnership which has secured some funding to open a Meeting Centre to support people with mild to moderate dementia and their family carers in Forfar.

We are holding an Information Meeting on Monday 25 October 2021 at 7pm in Strathmore Cricket Club, Graham Crescent, Forfar, DD8 1DU where you can find out more about this exciting new development and how you might become involved.

Meeting Centres are well established in the Netherlands where they have demonstrated benefits for people living with dementia, reducing behavioural and psychological problems and delaying admission to residential care. They are growing quickly in the UK and we are very fortunate to have a very successful Meeting Centre in Kirriemuir – Kirriemuir Connections.

Although we at Strathmore Cricket Club are taking the initiative in the early stages of this project, we believe that its success will depend on the extent to which others become involved. We see this as an opportunity for individuals, community organisations and public agencies to work together, building on their strengths, to deliver something which can make a positive difference to the quality of life for Forfar residents.

This is a very exciting project and one which has the potential to improve and support the well-being of people with dementia and their families living in locally. This initial meeting is open to all who think they may be interested.

Following the Dutch model, we will then form a smaller Initiative Group which will be the group of people who will make this happen, identifying families, deciding referral routes, steering the programme etc.

We have decided to hold the Information Meeting in Person, rather than online, but we are very aware of the need to manage it safely. We will be implementing a number of simple public health measures to help keep people safe and feel comfortable, including:

  • Maintaining physical distance between attendees
  • Wearing of face coverings
  • Asking all participants to register in advance.

Please come and have your say. You can register here. If you are not able to register online, please email us at strathmorecc@hotmail.com and we will reserve your place.

If you are not able to attend, we will keep you informed of progress on this project unless we hear from you to the contrary.

If you have any questions about the meeting or the project, please feel free to contact us.
